Leaf  Man

After reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, the children went on a nature walk on the playground and collected items that they could use to make their own pictures.  They used the book's images and their own ideas to create these Leaf Man inspired pictures.

New Pond Farm Picures

This website is soooo nifty!  Below you will find a sideshow of the pictures Mrs. Beninati took while we were at the farm.  Let us know if you are having any issues seeing the pictures.

The Farm! - October 13th-17th

Both classes spent last week learning about the animals and plants we find on the farm.  We also did many projects with the farm theme.  Here are a few:

Farm Books

The children were allowed to create a farm book by drawing a picture of an animal found on the farm, illustrate it, and write the name of the animal.

Farm Paintings

The children were asked to paint farm pictures on the easel.

Farm Mural

The children were given the opportunity to use their fine motor skills to color in a large farm mural that the teachers found!

Out of the Wheelchair!

Ms. Donza's class celebrated Paige being out of her wheelchair and ready to start walking with her walking cast. We had cupcakes with little casts in them!  Only a couple more weeks to go!

Shapes All Around!

This week we learned about shapes and explored them through rubbings, games, and creating pictures using shapes.

September 22-26: Handwriting Without Tears

This week we worked on writing our names by starting our letters at the top! We also had a wonderful sensory experience "writing" our names with dough. Using our name cards as a guide, we rolled out big lines, little lines, big curves, and little curves to form the letters of our names. This really helped us understand the exact letter formation.

Hanging Rainbows - Sept. 22nd-26th

Each child in both classes had the opportunity to make their own rainbow to hang form the ceiling.  They painted the colors in order of the rainbow.  Then they determined what letter each color begins with and glued it to that color in the rainbow.  Next they cut the rainbow out and glued some soft, fluffy "clouds" to the end of each side of the rainbow.  They certainly brighten our classrooms!

Using Yellow

During center time in Ms. Donza's class, we explored the color yellow.  We made collages with yellow materials, painted with yellow, and used yellow play dough to create objects!

Buddy Painting

In Mrs. Beninati's class we paired up to create paintings for our Friends theme. First we read the book Little Blue, Little Yellow about two friends who create the color green when they hug.  Each pair worked together to create a single work of art. Each friend will take home half of the painting as a reminder of their new friendship!

Friendship Collages

In Ms. Donza's class we talked about all the things we love to do with our friends.  We made a list and then took out magazines and cut out pictures of the thigns we like to do!  We glued them on and they are now up in the classroom for all to see!

We had such a fantastic first week at school! We can't believe how well all of the children have already gotten into a routine! We are looking forward to a very exciting year together!
